Welcome to the PolicyOptions Wiki!

The purpose of the PolicyOptions Wiki is to support the collaborative writing, editing, and updating of Issue Briefs of local, state, national, and global concern. Initially, we are reaching out to college and university faculty and students who will incorporate this research into academic courses and internships. Our long-term goal is to establish an international network of policy researchers who will contribute to the development of the PolicyOptions.org initiative. See below for more information.

This project is an experiment, so we're looking for as much feedback as we can. Please provide it here:

How to use this site

  • Step 1: Create Your User Account: to edit/add pages to the PolicyOptions Wiki, you must first create a user login for yourself using your real name and email address. Go to the link "create account" on the the upper right corner of this page to start this process.
  • Step 2: Review Researcher Guidelines if you are creating a new Issue Brief on a new topic, follow Guidelines for Writers & Editors.
  • Step 3: Refer to these wiki users guides: refer to the following users guides to learn how to use this wiki site.
  • Step 4: Begin a New Issue Overview and/or Issue Brief by following the directions for using templates as explained below:
  1. From a working page (the home page for the site or a campus working page (see below), create a new page by naming it and putting double-brackets on either side of the name (for example: [[New Page Name]]) and then save this edit.
  2. Next, open the link to the new page (it will be in red text), which will bring you to the edit screen for this new page (note: the first time you go to a newly created page you will always start in edit mode so you can add text). At this point, type one of the following template reference text (in bold, including the {{___}} brakets) depending on which template you want to appear in the new page:
    1. {{subst:IssueOverview}} for Issue Overview pages
    2. {{subst:IssueBrief}} for local, state, or national Issue Brief pages
    3. {{subst:PolicyOption}} for single Policy Option or Program Model pages
  3. Now, save the page and then when you re-open it, as if by magic, code you just typed in will have been replaced by the template text. The page is now ready for you to start filling in with the appropriate information.
